16 Hour Outdoor First Aid Course
Who is this course suitable for
Whether you are a professional instructor needing to revalidate your NGB qualifications or a hillwalker who wants the confidence to explore further, this course is designed for the unpredictable nature of the British wilderness.
In the Great Outdoors, the “golden hour” isn’t always a reality. We give you the skills to manage incidents, stabilise casualties, and make critical decisions in remote environments where Mountain Rescue or an ambulance might be hours—not minutes—away.
Our course is strictly aligned with the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Band 3 standards, providing a qualification that is nationally recognised and equivalent to Level 3 Outdoor First Aid.
This course meets the requirements of British Cycling, ML, SPA, RYA, BCU, ASSI, BOF, Duke of Edinburgh’s, BASI, Forest School, National Coasteering Charter and Scouts to name but a few.
How you will be assessed

Assessment Through Action: There is no written exam at the end of this course. Instead, your instructor will assess your skills throughout the course. We believe your ability to bandage a wound in the rain is a much better measure of success than a multiple-choice paper.

Feedback in Real-Time: Because the assessment is ongoing, you’ll receive immediate, constructive coaching after each scenario, allowing you to refine your technique and build confidence before the course ends.

About the Outdoor First Aid Course
Outdoor First Aid presents rescuers with the unique situation of prolonged care of a patient in a remote area before help arrives. This means that the rescuer is responsible for providing first aid care for the victim until help arrives.
The rescuer may be faced with many challenges, including:
- The need to improvise first aid equipment and supplies because not all of them will be available in remote environments.
- The need to provide long-term care because help may not arrive for hours.
- The need to provide emergency care when there are no emergency supplies or equipment available.
This course adheres to Band 3 of the Institute for Outdoor Learning Outdoor First Aid Training Framework. We have developed our 16-hour outdoor first aid course to be as practical and as real as it gets. The realistic casualty scenarios really bring the course to life and are a highly effective way of learning how to provide first aid. One of the many unique elements of this course is the proven neuroscience of staying calm in an emergency, skills which are used by special forces.
We gradually build up your skills and knowledge backed up by a realistic scenario putting it all together.
You are assessed on the outdoor first aid course but it is an ongoing assessment, this removes any of the formal exam nerves.
You will not see a single PowerPoint slide on your course! So far we have never had a complaint about this one.
