What is EFAW+F?

Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry (EFAW+F) is a first aid qualification designed for people working in forestry, arboriculture and other remote outdoor environments. It covers standard emergency first aid, plus the situations you are far more likely to meet on a woodland or tree work site: serious bleeding, crush and impact injuries, and getting help to a casualty who is a long way from the road.

Who is it for?

  • Tree surgeons and arborists
  • Forestry and woodland workers
  • Chainsaw operators and groundworkers
  • Estate, park and countryside teams
  • Contractors who need a forestry-appropriate first aid certificate for site or contract requirements

What you will learn

  • Assessing an incident and keeping yourself and others safe
  • Managing catastrophic bleeding, including chainsaw and other cutting injuries
  • CPR and use of a defibrillator (AED)
  • Treating an unresponsive casualty and choking
  • Fractures, crush injuries, and head, neck and back injuries
  • Shock, burns, and cold and heat-related conditions
  • Calling the emergency services and giving accurate location details from remote sites
  • Forestry first aid kit contents and casualty evacuation planning

The Training Experience: Practical, Not PowerPoint!

We don’t believe in teaching critical life-saving skills by making you stare at a screen. Our training is fully immersive, getting you out of the classroom and into realistic scenarios.

Using highly realistic casualty simulation, you will practice hands-on techniques for the exact types of trauma you might face in the field. We also integrate practical neuroscience into our curriculum—giving you a better understanding of how the brain responds under pressure. This ensures that when a real medical emergency strikes, you can maintain absolute calmness and immediately recall your training.

Frequently asked questions

What is Emergency First Aid at Work + Forestry (EFAW+F)?

EFAW+F is a first aid qualification for people working in forestry, arboriculture and woodland. It covers standard emergency first aid plus forestry-specific content, such as severe bleeding from cutting injuries, crush injuries and managing a casualty on a remote site.

What is the difference between EFAW and EFAW+F?

A standard Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is designed for typical workplaces. The +F version keeps the core emergency skills and adds the injuries and situations common in tree and woodland work, so it is the better fit if you use chainsaws or work off-road.

Who should take a forestry first aid course?

Tree surgeons, arborists, forestry and woodland workers, chainsaw operators, groundworkers and estate teams. Many contractors and clients also ask for a forestry-appropriate first aid certificate, so check your contract or site requirements.

Where do you run EFAW+F courses in Sussex?

We run courses across East Sussex and West Sussex. Check the booking section for current dates and venues. We also run courses in Kent, Hampshire and London.

One Course, Multiple Qualifications

Many roles today require more than one First Aid certificate. To save you time and money, we offer the opportunity to gain additional qualifications alongside your core training. Rather than attending multiple separate courses, you can complete the extra requirements during your session for a small administrative fee. It’s the most efficient way to ensure you are fully compliant across all your professional duties.

Emergency First Aid at Work+F

Practical Casualty Simulation & Scenario-Based Learning
You won’t find a single PowerPoint presentation on this course. Rather than spending hours staring at a screen in a sterile room, candidates spend the vast majority of their time outdoors working through hands-on simulations. Delivered by former frontline emergency services personnel and experienced outdoor specialists, the training uses realistic casualty simulation—including simulated wounds, varying terrain, and unpredictable elements—to teach vital decision-making under stress.

How much does the course cost?

£150.00 per person. That is the full price with nothing to add.

How long is the course and how long does the certificate last?

The course starts at 9.30 and will be finished at 18.30

Your certificate is valid for 3 years

Do I need any first aid experience?

No. The course suits complete beginners as well as people refreshing existing skills, and everything is taught from the ground up.

Can you train my team at our site in Sussex?

Yes, group and on-site bookings are possible. Get in touch with your numbers and location and we will put together a quote.

Should I book EFAW+F or FAAW+F?

EFAW+F is the shorter emergency-level qualification. FAAW+F is the fuller first aid at work course for those who need to act as a designated first aider. See our forestry first aid courses page for both, or contact us if you are unsure which your employer or client requires.
